The average Westerner is clueless about how incredibly resource heavy their lifestyles are--I was as well until recently. Although, me and me two kids lived in a large house, we used a fraction of the water and electricity that most do. I sold my large house on a 4.5 ac lot in the nicest neighborhood in town after living there for 20 years. Right now, we are off-grid in a large camper and a small building that my daughter and I built with zero experience--did have to pay a contractor for a few things--on a beautiful piece of land--12 ac--that is paid for. We are six months in and it's an education. We've learned to ration our water and electricity. We have two decent sized power boxes--solar generators--one in the camper and one in the building--because I sleep there. Each is connected to a 400 watt solar panel. We do have to run a propane generator to charge the box in the camper at times as it runs our fridge. We are collecting rain water--want to dig a well but in our county, it can come fairly easy at 200 feet or not at all at 1000 feet and you still have to pay--so haven't done this yet. I will say that we have a higher risk tolerance than most--haha. We have been trying for months to get our solar power system up and running with many issues but I now have 10 panels mounted--waiting for the other 2 that we use. We are in the process of getting everything wired and working--can't wait! Next we plan to get some chickens and start growing food--for now, there are tons of deer if we really need food. I was going to put up a metal building for a house but now don't know--re-grouping to figure it out. We miss a lot of the conveniences for sure but we've had what we needed--unfortunately, I don't think the average person would be willing to make the sacrifices that we've had to make.

>>I was a bit late to that party, not moving to the land until 1975.

Way past time for another round of that. I was only 13 in 1975 so I missed it the first time around too. Now a little too old to begin a brand new life of hard farming on a solo homestead, but interested to see many of us accomplish other similar things in small intentional communities. We need all the younger folks who aren't already too woke, brainwashed or mind-wiped by the pervasive 30 second tiktok attention span to move back to the land now and put in some hard work too. "Exit The Matrix System" and build a parallel society. A Second Renaissance, if you will.
