Excellent post. Since the REAL ID requirement crap “to travel on commercial aircraft” started showing up, I felt it was a yet another method to “keep track of us”. Then when I looked into all the documentation required to get one, I said “forget it, I’m not doing that”. My CDL was not due for a renewal so I forgot about it. And I also knew that for travel one could use a valid US passport, which I have, so I knew that is what I would use to travel within the U.S, so I never fell for the REAL ID propaganda about domestic air travel.
Then last fall my CDL was slated for “renewal”. I got on the CA DMV website (because CA wants you do do all this kind of activity on their digital platform) and looked at what I needed to do to renew my CDL. Because I am over 70 I had to do an “In person” visit to a DMV office. While I was perusing the CA DMV website I looked to see if one could just “renew the DL for a regular DL, not a REAL ID”. It took a bit of digging but I found that I could get a regular CDL, which is what I did. And my DL has no “red star” in the upper right hand corner, only “FEDERAL LIMITS APPLY”.
A side note, unless one does some deep digging, the possibility that one can get a “regular DL” in the State of California is not at all widely publicized or available. All through the DMV offices, there are signs about the REAL ID deadline. It’s as if a regular DL or ID card doesn’t exist anymore.
I have a number of ‘freedom (medical and personal) patriot warrior type’ friends who all applied and got the REAL ID. They never even questioned if there was an alternative ID that they could use or obtain, instead of the REAL ID. Or of the digital tracking device aspect of the REAL ID.

Thank you Kyle for posting this, I am someone who resides in Texas and was appalled and devastated to find that not only was there never offered any real Opt out that I could see, but that I was and my children were too upon arriving at driving age forced to give their fingerprint as though we are being placed under arrest when we obtain a driving license in the state of Texas. This grew even worse for me when I was given a very hard time throughout this process and in my area I was almost not allowed to fly on a plane because my area was already 100 percent in compliance with REAL ID at the airports long before the deadline where DHS now is right there taking body scans before you are allowed to get past to the terminals to board your plane, I jumped over hoops to get my driving license renewed and to transfer vehicles into my name and my daughter's name after a divorce, this process was made very difficult and I was treated like a criminal in my opinion.
We the people who are trying to obey laws do not seem to be appreciated by this government. I found myself trapped in this infinite loop during that process where I could not get my driving license squared away, could not obtain insurance only in my name until I first got the vehicle in my name, at every turn I was put back to the start not being able to complete each step without the other, and I am a U.S. citizen born and raised and had to deal with this brutal process while being treated with suspicion like a criminal every step of the way, it was not much better at Social Security. When I went to visit my mother in Florida, I was shocked to find that not only did she not know what a REAL ID was, she pulled out her license and showed me that it had the star, she had no idea what they were or that she already had one, no one told her evidently that she was being given one at renewal. This was the case with me as well, I was not being told that this driving license I was getting was a REAL ID and that there was any other option, even though If you go to the websites they tell you there is one. I was so embarrassed when I found that the new software that they use to take your photo has some type of enhanced facial recognition and has mapped out your entire face, zoomed in and everything. While I was being treated like a criminal trying to get an old vehicle my mother had given me put in my name, they printed out my highly enlarged and enhanced biometric facial image and held it up for the cameras along with everyone in that room to see that I felt was a violation of my privacy. I kept that so that if it ever comes out how they are treating people, I can show them what they did when I attempted to get my car registered in my name here. Even though they might have stated there were other options, I felt that I was being forced into this because I have military dependent children who are supposed to have access to base services, I had to be allowed on base if there was some reason that we needed to take them there, at the time they were getting their healthcare on post, though the last time I attempted to get on post I was turned away because I did not have a REAL ID whereas in the past showing their ID and my old one sufficed, this was no longer the case, and I was told I was not allowed to go through.
I also could not believe what I had to go through to board a plane without one, this was not just the post 9/11 stuff, this was because of the new REAL ID requirements, where at the small International Airport, I was told that DHS did not have my out of date Florida license on file even though I had a card due to the fact that I am a former military spouse that said the ID was valid until my ex husband separated from service. I had been having trouble trying to get together all the requirements for a new one, and was going to Florida where my last license was issued to attempt to resolve it while also getting an unused vehicle from my mother, and was told due to REAL ID they could no longer help me unless I resided in that state. In the past, they could have attempted to fix the problem since my license was issued in the state of Florida, so that I could turn in my old license or fix it, so that when I went back to Texas I would not have them giving me any further problems about the differences in the names on my documents.
REAL ID does not account for people being divorced and or having spelling errors on their birth certificate and other issues, like with SMART meters we are not really being offered an actual choice in this, and the way that things have gone, they are forcing everything digital and this has been the goal all along. This made this process very stressful for me. But, since I had been aware that this city is in full compliance with REAL ID already, I expected issues at the airport and brought a stack of documents to prove my identity matched what was on the airline ticket, I was turned back to the front desk by DHS but after showing them my stack of documents, I was finally allowed through, but it caused issues every step of the way for me. After finally being let through at the start, I found that I had to have my whole entire body scanned before DHS would allow me on the plane. As I waited in the long line, I looked over and saw all the digital ID compliant people skipping the line who did not have to go through any of this, that is how they will get everyone to eventually cave in to Digital ID. REAL ID is already set up to contain all our data, and Palantir has been helping with that at Walmart and Target and pretty much everywhere now. I know there was something different about the image on the REAL ID, and I would say that this is a capture of a deep scan of every little detail of your face, that is how it looked, and it is scary especially for those who maybe are already being targeted. It was devastating to see my young daughter being forced to give her fingerprint just to get a license to drive as though we are criminals for obtaining something that we need for our survival for the most part.
Most young people now also really do not seem to understand what all this means to allow everything to be gathered digitally being forced to use a wireless device for everything to survive. It is very sad actually that we are being herded into and forced into a digital dystopia with very few ways of opposing it if we want to be able to live, that is what this is coming to, as many are increasingly becoming aware, it has been done by the carrot and the stick, and when that does not work, we have seen what the costs have been. I have fought so much of this as a single mother, while over the years, I have watched as ATMs were rolled out in order to get every person accepting using cards over checks, then we were herded into using websites and giving our phone numbers for everything, then it was with the cell phones and herding everyone to use the apps, now the same is being done with cash increasingly making that more and more difficult, and I have fought for my own survival not being willing or able really to carry a cell phone due to the harms it is capable of causing linking up to the GWEN towers and other aspects of this militarized system, beam forming is a well documented fact that is part of the weapon system. I have found since Covid a very stealth campaign to not allow more and more things to be done using cash or without a cell phone. I had this happen at the Federal Student loan website where they asked for an image of my face stating my known password was invalid, then I noticed it at Social Security where they were asking me to sign up for their IDme, and I suspect that we will be barred from accessing our own accounts that way in the near future. These people have certainly had this plan for a very long time, and it is all going just how they wanted it seems, with all the fires they are starting they have our heads spinning so much we can hardly keep track of what has been planned all along, we did not see this coming soon enough I think.

In late February I received notification from Stand for Health Freedom addressing exactly the issues in your excellent article. They provided a chance for citizens to respond to this rape of freedom by offering a letter to be sent to the President, VP, senators and congressmen. The request is always made to personalize the letter rather than just sign your name to their words. I responded by asking why, in particular, republican elected officials would think they could represent myself or any citizen by demanding the use of a card that had a yellow nazi star on it for identification. I informed them that I was disgusted by this overreach of personal control especially in light of the fact that history seemed to be repeating itself.

I'm here in Wisconsin, no star on my DL and also states "Not for Federal Purposes". If they truly feel that way about me, then eliminate me from paying Federal taxes. I don't fly anymore anyways, and have no plans to.

In CA if one is over 70 they want an “in person” visit. You do most of the renewal ‘online’ with an online ‘test’ on the DMV website, then go into an office. They fingerprint you, take a new photo, and do a simple ‘eye test’ and you’re out the door. As I said I opted for the regular CDL, no REAL ID. Got my new license in less than two weeks.
I have my MD certification to never remove my mask in a petri dish crowded space as the CA DMV, and presented it, knowing CA has waived its Sovereign Immunity for disability discrimination and accommodation laws. But I still had to go in, being over 70.
I could clearly see the vision test letters, even without eyeglasses (in one eye), but was told TWICE that I had flunked the vision test!
The first mask would not allow eyeglasses to seat, degrading bad eye vision. The second mask caused eyeglasses to fog up.
This could be discrimination based on no new photo, thus having to bypass Real ID, even if for a documented medical reason. 'Disparate Impact' states a claim only for employment.
I will be 70 in August, so not really sure how the renewal process is setup currently. I have always gone in person to renew my license. Its has been that you receive your updated DL immediately. Thanks for the info, it gives me something to research. I refuse to be forced to have a "real ID".
I stopped flying after the TSA was created because they were allowed to search us without a warrant or due process and they treated every flyer as a possible terrorist. Imagine if more people had done this. It wouldn’t have taken long for the government to cancel the program.
Now that everyone has to be Face ID captured people ought to stop flying. Government keeps taking our rights away because we won’t fight for them.

The Executive Order directs the Treasury to implement policies that will require all financial transactions -- to and from the federal government -- to be done electronically. The pretext is to "prevent fraud, waste and abuse" and to improve "efficiency".
This will require every tax payer and every benefit recipient to grant to the federal government direct access to their bank accounts.
Within a short period of time after implementation (I'll give it a year) a major data breach will be announced. At which time, the government will require that everyone must obtain a "secure" government-issued digital ID that will include some form of biometric identification scheme. Yes you can opt for the regular ole CDL…but not widely promoted.

This grew even worse for me when I was given a very hard time throughout this process and in my area I was almost not allowed to fly on a plane because my area was already 100 percent in compliance with REAL ID at the airports long before the deadline where DHS now is right there taking body scans before you are allowed to get past to the terminals to board your plane, I jumped over hoops to get my driving license renewed and to transfer vehicles into my name and my daughter's name after a divorce, this process was made very difficult and I was treated like a criminal in my opinion.
We the people who are trying to obey laws do not seem to be appreciated by this government. I found myself trapped in this infinite loop during that process where I could not get my driving license squared away, could not obtain insurance only in my name until I first got the vehicle in my name, at every turn I was put back to the start not being able to complete each step without the other, and I am a U.S. citizen born and raised and had to deal with this brutal process while being treated with suspicion like a criminal every step of the way, it was not much better at Social Security. When I went to visit my mother in Florida, I was shocked to find that not only did she not know what a REAL ID was, she pulled out her license and showed me that it had the star, she had no idea what they were or that she already had one, no one told her evidently that she was being given one at renewal. This was the case with me as well, I was not being told that this driving license I was getting was a REAL ID and that there was any other option, even though If you go to the websites they tell you there is one. I was so embarrassed when I found that the new software that they use to take your photo has some type of enhanced facial recognition and has mapped out your entire face, zoomed in and everything. While I was being treated like a criminal trying to get an old vehicle my mother had given me put in my name, they printed out my highly enlarged and enhanced biometric facial image and held it up for the cameras along with everyone in that room to see that I felt was a violation of my privacy. I kept that so that if it ever comes out how they are treating people, I can show them what they did when I attempted to get my car registered in my name here. Even though they might have stated there were other options, I felt that I was being forced into this because I have military dependent children who are supposed to have access to base services, I had to be allowed on base if there was some reason that we needed to take them there, at the time they were getting their healthcare on post, though the last time I attempted to get on post I was turned away because I did not have a REAL ID whereas in the past showing their ID and my old one sufficed, this was no longer the case, and I was told I was not allowed to go through.
I also could not believe what I had to go through to board a plane without one, this was not just the post 9/11 stuff, this was because of the new REAL ID requirements, where at the small International Airport, I was told that DHS did not have my out of date Florida license on file even though I had a card due to the fact that I am a former military spouse that said the ID was valid until my ex husband separated from service. I had been having trouble trying to get together all the requirements for a new one, and was going to Florida where my last license was issued to attempt to resolve it while also getting an unused vehicle from my mother, and was told due to REAL ID they could no longer help me unless I resided in that state. In the past, they could have attempted to fix the problem since my license was issued in the state of Florida, so that I could turn in my old license or fix it, so that when I went back to Texas I would not have them giving me any further problems about the differences in the names on my documents.
REAL ID does not account for people being divorced and or having spelling errors on their birth certificate and other issues, like with SMART meters we are not really being offered an actual choice in this, and the way that things have gone, they are forcing everything digital and this has been the goal all along. This made this process very stressful for me. But, since I had been aware that this city is in full compliance with REAL ID already, I expected issues at the airport and brought a stack of documents to prove my identity matched what was on the airline ticket, I was turned back to the front desk by DHS but after showing them my stack of documents, I was finally allowed through, but it caused issues every step of the way for me. After finally being let through at the start, I found that I had to have my whole entire body scanned before DHS would allow me on the plane. As I waited in the long line, I looked over and saw all the digital ID compliant people skipping the line who did not have to go through any of this, that is how they will get everyone to eventually cave in to Digital ID. REAL ID is already set up to contain all our data, and Palantir has been helping with that at Walmart and Target and pretty much everywhere now. I know there was something different about the image on the REAL ID, and I would say that this is a capture of a deep scan of every little detail of your face, that is how it looked, and it is scary especially for those who maybe are already being targeted. It was devastating to see my young daughter being forced to give her fingerprint just to get a license to drive as though we are criminals for obtaining something that we need for our survival for the most part.
Most young people now also really do not seem to understand what all this means to allow everything to be gathered digitally being forced to use a wireless device for everything to survive. It is very sad actually that we are being herded into and forced into a digital dystopia with very few ways of opposing it if we want to be able to live, that is what this is coming to, as many are increasingly becoming aware, it has been done by the carrot and the stick, and when that does not work, we have seen what the costs have been. I have fought so much of this as a single mother, while over the years, I have watched as ATMs were rolled out in order to get every person accepting using cards over checks, then we were herded into using websites and giving our phone numbers for everything, then it was with the cell phones and herding everyone to use the apps, now the same is being done with cash increasingly making that more and more difficult, and I have fought for my own survival not being willing or able really to carry a cell phone due to the harms it is capable of causing linking up to the GWEN towers and other aspects of this militarized system, beam forming is a well documented fact that is part of the weapon system. I have found since Covid a very stealth campaign to not allow more and more things to be done using cash or without a cell phone. I had this happen at the Federal Student loan website where they asked for an image of my face stating my known password was invalid, then I noticed it at Social Security where they were asking me to sign up for their IDme, and I suspect that we will be barred from accessing our own accounts that way in the near future. These people have certainly had this plan for a very long time, and it is all going just how they wanted it seems, with all the fires they are starting they have our heads spinning so much we can hardly keep track of what has been planned all along, we did not see this coming soon enough I think.

In late February I received notification from Stand for Health Freedom addressing exactly the issues in your excellent article. They provided a chance for citizens to respond to this rape of freedom by offering a letter to be sent to the President, VP, senators and congressmen. The request is always made to personalize the letter rather than just sign your name to their words. I responded by asking why, in particular, republican elected officials would think they could represent myself or any citizen by demanding the use of a card that had a yellow nazi star on it for identification. I informed them that I was disgusted by this overreach of personal control especially in light of the fact that history seemed to be repeating itself.

I'm here in Wisconsin, no star on my DL and also states "Not for Federal Purposes". If they truly feel that way about me, then eliminate me from paying Federal taxes. I don't fly anymore anyways, and have no plans to.

In CA if one is over 70 they want an “in person” visit. You do most of the renewal ‘online’ with an online ‘test’ on the DMV website, then go into an office. They fingerprint you, take a new photo, and do a simple ‘eye test’ and you’re out the door. As I said I opted for the regular CDL, no REAL ID. Got my new license in less than two weeks.
I have my MD certification to never remove my mask in a petri dish crowded space as the CA DMV, and presented it, knowing CA has waived its Sovereign Immunity for disability discrimination and accommodation laws. But I still had to go in, being over 70.
I could clearly see the vision test letters, even without eyeglasses (in one eye), but was told TWICE that I had flunked the vision test!
The first mask would not allow eyeglasses to seat, degrading bad eye vision. The second mask caused eyeglasses to fog up.
This could be discrimination based on no new photo, thus having to bypass Real ID, even if for a documented medical reason. 'Disparate Impact' states a claim only for employment.
I will be 70 in August, so not really sure how the renewal process is setup currently. I have always gone in person to renew my license. Its has been that you receive your updated DL immediately. Thanks for the info, it gives me something to research. I refuse to be forced to have a "real ID".

I stopped flying after the TSA was created because they were allowed to search us without a warrant or due process and they treated every flyer as a possible terrorist. Imagine if more people had done this. It wouldn’t have taken long for the government to cancel the program.
Now that everyone has to be Face ID captured people ought to stop flying. Government keeps taking our rights away because we won’t fight for them.

Getting out of India via flying was very interesting. Lots more "army" with AR15's or AK47 or the Chinese equivalent at many many corners of the airport...so it goes!
For the record...via Chat GPT...Hawaii does indeed have an opt out of REAL ID option...BUT as you wrote...they "conceal" the fact that a Passport or other types of id are viable for flying...sigh!

Yesterday, March 25, 2025, Trump announced his initiative to "Modernize Payments to and from America’s Bank Account". The Executive Order directs the Treasury to implement policies that will require all financial transactions -- to and from the federal government -- to be done electronically. The pretext is to "prevent fraud, waste and abuse" and to improve "efficiency".
This will require every tax payer and every benefit recipient to grant to the federal government direct access to their bank accounts.
Within a short period of time after implementation (I'll give it a year) a major data breach will be announced. At which time, the government will require that everyone must obtain a "secure" government-issued digital ID that will include some form of biometric identification scheme. The universal ID will eventually become ubiquitous. The biometric IDs will be required to fly, open a bank account, obtain any type of license, and to receive medical care.
Sadly, that's an all to likely scenario.
